I met Rudy at ND. We were the same class, Class of 1976. I did not know him well. I met him a few times in the Nautilus Room at the ACC. I was not a football player but me and one of my buddies would go into the weight room that was right next to the Nautilus Room and climb over the plywood wall to get into the Nautilus Room. The Nautilus Room was ONLY for football players. We saw Rudy in there a few times. He was a cool guy. He knew that we were not FB players, but he didn't mind.

Notre Dame diehard for life. Did not get accepted for undergrad, got accepted into the MBA program but made the pragmatic (not emotional) choice to go to Vanderbilt (wanted to work in the South). 30 years later I still have the acceptance letter...no regrets (well maybe a little..Go Irish!)

Some no name clerk typed out that letter after some admission folk (perhaps with a bit of influence from the good Father Cavanaugh) made the call, none of them knowing it would lead to one of the greatest Notre Dame football legends (the story, not the guy) of the 20th century.
